today i will leave this behind me! i bet you there is not anyone happier than me right now!

helsinki yesterday

it’s 7.48am and i’m having the last finnish breakfast for two months. before the delhi flight tonight i’m going to clean my house for the lovely woman who is renting it, pack my backpack, fix a few last things and lastly put down my VOTE for the new finnish president!

the finnish presidential elections are on and there’s two great candidates remaining. both are smart and have impressive political resumes and i’d be happy to have either as head of state. but there is something appealing with the green party’s pekka haavisto who is an environmentalist, openly gay and very cultured and civilized. this is not to say sauli niinistö, the other candidate, isn’t cultured or civilized (quite the contrary) but with these two candidates it’s not a difficult choice for me: a former banker, conservative “smooth-talking politcal veteran” and an openly gay candidate who seems to be a representing a new generation where tolerance, openness, conflict resolution and the environment are key issues. i know who gets my vote, but truthfully i’ll be happy and proud with either one as the president of finland :) it will be excited to wake up on monday morning in mysore to check the results!

mother india, here i come. thank you for inviting me back once again.
